I think part of the problem with "ex-gay" is that you have the "reality" brought about by the Ted Haggards and Larry Craigs of the world.

People can "say" they are "ex-gay", but the reality of the situation is that when it comes to internal homophobia, people will "say" a lot to deny what they are TRULY like inside.

Dr Spitzer did a study on "ex-gays", and had extreme difficulty in locating them.
Eventually, he had to receive NON-random candidates which were given to him by the reparative therapy groups. This violates scientific standard in that allowing the reparative therapy groups to pick and choose candidates to review, you destroy any possibility at a representative sample.
It's like basing an FDA evaluation of a drug based on a commercial.

Regardless, even under these conditions of allowing the reparative therapy groups to pick the people for the study, Spitzer found a MAJORITY of those involved admitted to continuing to masturbate to same gender fantasies.

Hardly "ex-gay" but more of "monogamous".

    The bottom line?
You hear MORE about "ex-gays" from the GROUPS which claim to spit them out than you do from the ex-gays themselves...

I agree with that. I can't help but believe that there is a certain amount of truth to the 'born Gay' argument...

You don't know whether being gay is a choice for other people or not. I suggest you try listening to gay people instead of making pronouncements about other people's lives.

I can only speak for myself. I am gay. I did not choose to be gay. I can choose whether or not to have sex, but that's a different question.

I cannot say whether someone else has really changed his or her sexual orientation, since I am not anyone else. I cannot speak for other people. I do not care what sexual orientation someone else is. That is their business.

The poll question is sort of flawed. I mean, "can" is a misnomer. In the history of all gays has anyone ever gone 'straight'? I'm sure. However, if you ask most people who are gay, most say they've always been. If most gay people say they were born that way, why would there be any reason to doubt that?

Could straight people go through a program to make them ex-straight and truly be ex-straight?
Homosexuality is yet another facet of the human condition. It is an indelible fact of all societies and, as such, should be accepted and seamlessly integrated with the mainstream.

No, Even though I am married

Even though I am married to a woman now I am still in love with a commerical fisherman in Providence RI. He and I meet occasionally and I just haven't been able to face my reality.

Well that would make you a cheater and a liar and has nothing to do with gay or straight. If you are in love with someone else, you should release the other. It is selfish and wrong to do anything less...

I was thinking the same thing. I feel for his wife. Imagine if he is having gay sex on the side; she has no idea that she is potentially exposing herself to life threatening STDs every time she has sex with a man she thinks loves her.

True, but the risk would be there as well if it was a heterosexual affair as well. I'm not sure if a gay affair is worse or not, per se. But they both are wrong and should be ended as soon as possible...

He is a perfect example of someone who has succumbed to the indoctrination pressure of the religionist's anti-gay dogma to the detriment of his true nature and of those around him.

I voted no cause I tried to be straight, but I'm not. Being bi is part of me, same as my asthma, adhd, brown eyes.

So tell me why every new gay poster in this forum runs to the gay threads immediately? Does your sexuality define who you are? Are you one-dimensional?
You don't see newbie heteros jumping on every old thread related to banging chicks, do you?

...Sex has nothing to do with it. For me, Gay Rights are very important because closed minded bigots don't want us to have the same rights that straight people automatically get. It's also the issue I know best.

Not that it's any concern of yours, but I have been reading other threads...
