Fairness Doctrine-What Say You??

Folks, we have all heard the desire to reinstate the so-called "Fairness" Doctrine, supposedly to give equal time to opposing sides of an issue. My take on it is simple! It is just a way for Liberals to monopolize all of the media, like they once did before President Reagan repealed it.

In short, my answer is:

HELL NO!!

It's about one of the very foundational concepts that have helped shape this country-freedom of speech. Being able to convey opinion without compromise or fear of big daddy government shutting you up.

Hey.., if there was a market for liberal jibberish to be sent out over the airwaves, they would'nt need a law to enforce their views.

Truth is once you back a liberal into a corner,(which can be done in a sentence or two), they start calling names and throwing personal insults. Who wants to listen to that on the radio?

So who's asking, or is this just another drive-by Rushbo inspired strawman?

My god, what would Keith Olbermann and Glenn Beck do if they had to present the news honestly and in a non-biased and balanced manner?

The Fairness Doctrine? Who's advocating for that? I think it was lobbed about as a potential solution due to a corporate take over of the airwaves (News Corp, Clear Channel, etc.) but I wouldn't take it seriously.

What does bother me is the ownership of our information (outside of the web) is controlled by fewer and fewer people. But, to raise fears about the Fairness Doctrine is just a liberal boogeyman.

I think that the Fairness doctrine, as I understand it, is too forced. One cannot give equal voice to all sides on all issues on all media. Sometimes, the facts work toward one side more than the other, or one side is more energized about an issue than the other. However, I do believe that official news programs on TV should remain neutral - as was originally arranged at the beginning of TV history when the networks were apparently given their space in the "airwaves" for free in exchange for offering up politically neutral news programs for the good of the public. Nowadays, media companies want to make the news programs profitable as well. I would hope to see that reversed back to its original deal.

It's obvious that Nancy Pelosi suggested it just to suppress the opinions of Fox News. When the mainstream media is on your side, you don't advocate equality.

You can link to the quote, then? Thought not. Bassman is channeling Rushbo's fantasies again.

At least we can still get unbiased news coverage from our publicly supported entities like NPR and such.

Do you have anything intelligent to say or are you just going to keep trying to derail the topic?

If you don't have it, we understand. All I asked for was corroboration of what you claimed she said.
