The Ant and the Grasshopper

The following e-mail was sent to me by a friend, so I decided to share it here:

Quote:
THE ANT AND THE GRASSHOPPER
Two Different Versions--Two Different Morals

OLD VERSION
The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long,
building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances
and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.
The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the
cold.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself!
________________________________________

MODERN VERSION

The ant works hard in the withering heat and the rain all summer
long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances
and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference
and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and
well fed while he is cold and starving.

CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN, ABC and MSNBC show up to provide pictures of the
shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his
comfortable home with a table filled with food.

America is stunned by the sharp contrast.

How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this
poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper and
everybody cries when they sing, 'It's Not Easy Being Green.'

Acorn stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where
the news stations film the group singing, 'We shall overcome.'
Rev. Jeremiah Wright then has the group kneel down to pray to
God for the grasshopper's sake.

President Obama condemns the ant and blames President Bush,
President Reagan, Christopher Columbus, and the Pope for
the grasshopper's plight.

Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid exclaim in an interview with Larry
King that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper,
and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him
pay his fair share.

Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity & Anti-Grasshopper
Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer.

The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of
green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes,
his home is confiscated by the Government Green Czar and given to
the grasshopper.

The story ends as we see the grasshopper and his free-loading
friends finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the
government house he is in, which, as you recall, just happens to
be the ant's old house, crumbles around them because the grasshopper
doesn't maintain it.

The ant has disappeared in the snow, never to be seen again.

The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident, and the
house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who
terrorize the ramshackle, once prosperous and once peaceful,
neighborhood.
The entire Nation collapses bringing the rest of the free world
with it.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be careful how you vote in 2010.

Jazz how can you be a coward when you are the majority party in house, senate, have the white house, a lock on the lame stream media and academia?

If lawmakers and anti-gun groups were serious about reducing or ending gun crimes, they would turn their wrath toward the criminals. As it is, their efforts are not the solution to gun crimes they are part of the problem.
Even if you gave liberals the answers on an ethics exam, they’d fail.

The laboring ant is not a he. She works hard in the withering heat and brings back her gain to the collective ant hill where she receives her share according to the will of the collective.

Ants also differ from most other insects in that they are social, similar to termites and certain bees and wasps. This means that ants live in large cooperative groups called colonies. 2 or more generations overlap in the colony; adults take care of the young and are divided into castes, specialized groups that take care of certain tasks. Ants have reproductive castes, the queens and males, and nonreproductive castes, the workers....

Male ants are generally winged and usually keep their wings until death. Apparently, the male ant's only function is to mate with the queen. Once he does, he dies, generally within two weeks. Males are produced in old, mature colonies.
Male ants are idle, nonproductive entities whose existence is ruled by eating and copulating.

Ants are, essentially, communistic.

Try again, so-called "Sartre."

The ant and the grasshopper was one of Aesops fables.
It was not supposed to be taken literally

The fact is that we can't account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can't.

It served well in its time when our present-day scientific knowledge was not available.

It does not serve now.

So you think that they thought foxes ate grapes and tortoises raced hares in Aesops time?

No, I don't think that. But, I must say I have little respect for your thinking process.

You are the one that took an Aesop fable literally, then suggested that our present scientific knowledge had some bearing on its relevence.I may have some respect for your thinking process if I found some evidence that it exists.

Oh fool! One does not take the Tales of Aesop literally! They serve as a rude tool for teaching values.

But the values exhibited in the Tale of the Ant and Grasshopper are groundless.

Then how did you think that your lesson in entomology was relevant.
The values exhibited in the ant and grasshopper are groundless to the workshy and apologists of the workshy.

It is one thing to work hard on behalf of oneself and on behalf of one's family. Quite another thing it is to work mindlessly like a communistic worker ant on behalf of the uncaring corporation.
