Domestic vs Import Drag Race

For any of you drag racing fans in the Michigan area, there is an import vs domestic car race Saturday night 7:00PM to 2:00AM at US131 in Martin, MI.
We've got the twin-turbos and electronic glitches all straightened out, my son has his Class D license, so we're all set to beat some ricers and attempt some 8 second 1/4 mile passes tomorrow night .

Sounds like fun. Some of those ricers make some serious power and are pretty quick. Reminds me of when I was dragging motorcycles ..... I was spotting the Harleys inches and they were spotting me weight. The lesson I learned is inches are hard to beat. Good luck! Let us know how it went.

I owned a 2001 Camaro SS, low 13s off the showroom floor and was very impressed the first time a Civic on nitrous blew me away getting on an Interstate on-ramp. He came on right behind me, pulled along side and we both hit it from about 35mph. There are some serious ricer daily drivers. And to an old rodder, what a bargain price for that level of straight-line street performance.

We raced the winner of the import vs domestics at the event Saturday night. My son spotted a Turbo Talon 6 car lengths and damn near caught him after it travelled 2 car lengths.

Prior to that, since there weren't any cars fast enough to be competitive, he called out the fastest motorcycle. He beat the Busa in the video by 2-3 car lengths.

I can only imagine how it will run on full boost.

Best times to date while debugging electronics and suspension has been solid-9's.
Looking for mid-8's by year end.

Suspension? How stock is that suspension - I'll bet it takes a real man to hold er straight in a 9 second run! Does it have a 9" Ford rear like yours? What gear? Will it come back down the return track under it's own power?

Suspension is stock style F-body. It does have adjustable LCA's and torque arm, though. The rear is a 12 bolt Moser w/4.10 gear and full spool. And not only does it return under its own power, it's tagged, insured and occasionally street-driven. At $11/gallon for C16, he doesn't drive it on the street much, however.

As for handling down the 1320, it launches straight when the track is prepped but has gotten a little squirrelly at the big end a couple of times. At US131 on his first pass two weeks ago, the track hadn't been prepped yet, so the sand dragged down the first 100' by the street-driven ricers played hell on his launches. He had to lift or take out the center timing box. After they swept and re VHT'd the track, his launches were straight but top end was iffy.
WE've yet to get close to full boost because track conditions prevented it.
This Saturday we're heading to Chicago to race a full chassis 7 second race car that's giving him a handicap.

Sounds like a fun ride. Have you taken it for a spin? $11/gal and the full spool will discourage crusing. What cooling systems did you use?

Gas that costs $11 per gallon should be green instead of blue.

I've been in it, but haven't driven it. Honestly, I'd rather drive my 10 second Z28 than his. His turbo exhaust dumps straight down in the engine compartment so there's some CO in the passanger compartment when it's idling.

The full spool is surprisingly calm on the road, I don't understand why, though. My Detroit Locker makes more noise and clunks than his spool.
He had a big racing radiator in it and custom air deflector. It cruises at <200F as long as you keep your foot out of the loud pedal.

You mean gold.
He uses VPRacing's C16. It's got a 118 Octane rating (and it's only slightly blue).

We're heading to the Chicago Area this weekend to "represent" for the Motor City.
