Sure there are always anti-christ, but there will be one very influential anti-christ that will have the world at his heel. The true anti-christ will become inhabbited by Lucifer himself. This will recognized by all once he establishes a 7 year peace agreement with Israel and the Palestinians. 3 and 1/2 years of peace, 3 1/2 years of terror. He will also proclaim himself as most high and perform wonders beyond what man can comprehend.

This isn't to relevant to the topic, but I was thinking of possibilities outside the box. For example anyone that plays videogames can testify to rapid increase in graphics and gaming consoles performance. Online capabilities our like 100 times faster and continue to increase in speed. With the release of this online games, and other games of virtual reality I wouldn't be surprised to see a point in time somewhat soon where virtual life and real life merge. Think about those head sets you put on, hence the mark on the forehead, and the gloves you put on, hence the mark on the right hand.

I think it is possible to read almost anything into this sort of thing. It's like the bible code stuff that mysteriously could only predict events a couple of months after they had happened. The nature of prophecy, particularly of the sort found in revelation, is that it can be applied, with a bit of effort, to any time and any place. I was talking to some JWs the other week, who were trying to claim that the third empire to rise and fall before the second coming was that of the US. I did point out that said empire was not in the area required by the Bible, and actually the Ottoman empire was a much closer fit, as was the British empire, both of which had significant authority in the relevant areas.

On the fact that 666 is 216 in the Left Behind series: I'm not familiar with the books but it can't be coincidental that 216 is 6x6x6. It's probably just another way of interpreting the Greek in Revelation.

The number six hundred and sixty six would be represented by three adjacent 6s only after the adoption of Arabic numerals and the invention of the place system. At the time Revelation was written, it would have been DCLXVI.

It's in Greek, not Latin. And revelation doesn't refer to the number 666, it refers to the three sixes, which is why it could be 216.

Revelation 13:18 is translated in most of the versions I've checked as six hundred and sixty-six. And how would that number have been represented in a Greek text, in the first century CE, in a province of the Roman Empire? Not as 666, that's for sure.

I'll have a look in my Greek NT... but the 216 makes me suspect it's conveyed in words not numerals.

I'm sure you're right that it's in words. But I think the words translate as 'six hundred, sixty (or three score) and six'. (NT Greek scholars - any guidance here?) My original point was that this number would not, in a non-mathematical text from the 1st century, be numerically represented as three adjacent sixes. That would not come about until the widespread adoption of the place system.
